RATIONAL FOR ESTABLISHING KSF |
| |
Resaerch survey conducted in 1996 in the Ho district in the Volta Region revealed that almost 70% of the youth in the rural areas are illiterates. Their attitudes to development innovations are very low. They lack skills and knowledge that they need to shape their socio-economic life in the future. At a distance, one could see the gulf of chronic poverty and under-development in the district. Projections are that social vices such as commercial sex among young girls will increase the menace of HIV/AIDS and the rural urban drift will assume unprecedented dimensions.
The result of the research survey instigated Mr. Felix Quarshie to form the KPAMBA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION (KSF). By the term ‘Scholarship’ is used to describe a state of relief, freedom and power over poverty through education, an upliftment from darkness(i.e. illiteracy) to light (enlightenment).
Unfortunately, many parents within Agotime Traditional Area where the foundation has its headquarters are pro-poor peasant illiterate farmers who cannot support their children’s education.
The operational plan by the founder is to source funds from various sources including other NGOs, philanthropists and churches to support education of every child in the area as the most desirable option for tackling chronic poverty. |
